Tom Hanks-5-1024x767Hanks his next film role was that of an astronaut and commanding officer Jim Lovell in the 1995 docudrama Apollo 13. This reunited him with Ron Howard. The movie's performances as well as Kevin Bacon's portrayal were well-received by reviewers. The film also earned nine Academy Award nominations, winning two. Hanks was later seen as Sheriff Woody in Disney/Pixar's computer-animated animated film Toy Story (1995). The next year the director made his debut with the musical comedy That Thing You Do! The tale of the fall and rise of a 1960s-era rock band. Hanks also plays the role of a music producer. Richard Schickel of Time magazine said that his performance was "charming" and the majority of critics agreed that Hanks performance earned him a place in the top romantic comedy stars of his time.
